Commercial Manager – Groundworks – Now it’s your turn

Ever looked at your boss and thought, “How the hell did he end up running the show?”

Ever priced a job on the back of a fag packet while the rest of the “team” vanished faster than the last sausage roll at the site canteen?

Ever fancied making a proper impact, without having to fight through layers of management and a less than able client side QS?

If that sounds like your Monday morning, we might have just the ticket.

The Set-Up:

This is a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor. Not one of those “we started in lockdown under new name number three” outfits.

We’re talking years of trading, long-term clients, and a track record longer than a con-rod on a JCB.

Their bread and butter?

Groundworks packages on industrial units, educational schemes, commercial builds. Proper work. Concrete, muck, drainage, slabs, you name it.

They’re West Midlands based and work in the Midlands area.

No fluff or chasing unicorn margins. Just solid packages with top end main contractors who pay on time, (most of the time) expect a good product and when you deliver come back for more.

And they’ve got plans.

The kind that involve promoting from within, growing senior staff into leadership, and letting Commercial Managers move up to Director-level roles without selling their soul or sitting through “vision board” PowerPoints.

The greying Commercial Director here isn’t going to be around forever – he’ll need to be replaced at some point – and when that happens you’ll be in pole position.

The Role:

You’ll run the commercial end of multiple live sites.

Take things from pre-con, through tender, into delivery, and then bring them home tidy at final account.

You won’t be bogged down by bureaucracy or baby-sitting juniors who think “value engineering” means swapping concrete for hope.

You’ll people manage a small team of QS’s.

You’ll be working with experienced site teams, a proper commercial director who’s still got the battle scars, and estimators who know their way round a take-off.

Expect:

  • Autonomy without being left in the wilderness.

  • Real backing on commercial decisions.

  • A say in how the business develops.

  • Clear line of sight to a Directorship.

You:

You’ve probably been in the game 10+ years.

Groundworks is your bread and butter.

You know how to negotiate, protect margin, and read the room in a client meeting.

You’re already managing a team of QS’s.

And more than that – you’re ready to step up. Not just run the numbers, but help shape the future of a business.

You’re not after a someone blowing smoke up your proverbial and a fake title bump.

You’re after a real seat at the table – this is it.

What’s On Offer:

  • Competitive salary (obviously).

  • Car or allowance.

  • Bonus scheme that actually pays.

  • Direct line to senior leadership.

  • A culture where people stay because they’re looked after – not locked in.

So, if you’re tired of just keeping jobs on budget and want to start influencing the whole game plan – this is your move.

Because let’s face it – you’ve done enough time making other people look good.

Now it’s your turn.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got an up to date CV – it’s not important for now. Everyone who gets in touch will get a response.

Now the D&I bit – Civils Senior Talent and our partner clients are equal opportunity employers.
