Project Manager — Commercial Groundworks
(Progression. Stability. No nonsense.)
You can tell a lot about a civils outfit by how they talk about being busy.
Some say it like it’s a problem. Others say it with quiet confidence.
This lot fall into the second camp.
They’re a long-standing groundworks and civils contractor working across commercial and industrial projects — retail parks, offices, warehouses, logistics hubs. Proper jobs, steady clients, sensible margins. No chasing your tail, no half-finished schemes that disappear when the funding dries up.
They’ve got a full order book, good people, and a plan that actually makes sense.
Now they want another Project Manager — someone who can run work cleanly, keep things moving, and still sleep at night.
The Role
You’ll lead multiple commercial groundworks projects from cradle to handover.
You’ll take charge of planning, coordination, budgets, health & safety — all the good stuff that keeps sites ticking. You’ll have the trust and space to manage the way you know works best, not the way someone in head office thinks it should work.
Because that’s how they operate here.
They hire grown-ups. They don’t micromanage.
If you’ve ever worked somewhere that measures progress by the number of meetings held, this will feel like a breath of fresh air.
You’ll manage commercial groundworks packages across the East and West Midlands.
What You’ll Get
Security. The pipeline’s locked in. Clients are long-term and pay on time. No drama, no scramble for the next job.
Progression. They’re growing in a measured way — not ballooning, but building capacity sensibly. There’s a clear path to step up to Contracts Manager once you’ve proved you can handle the portfolio.
Autonomy. You’ll run your projects without being second-guessed. The leadership team’s made up of people who’ve actually done the job, so they get it.
Support. Estimating, commercial, and site teams are solid. You’ll have the right backup to deliver properly.
And you’ll get treated like an adult. No nonsense, no blame culture, no shouting matches over margins. Just respect, clear communication, and an expectation that you’ll get the job done.
What You’ll Bring
You’ll already be running or assisting on commercial groundworks jobs — offices, retail, industrial, infrastructure. You’ll know the drill: keeping programmes tight, managing subbies, juggling clients, and still having enough humour left to make it through Friday.
You’re decisive, steady under pressure, and you don’t need your hand held. You understand the commercial side as well as the operational — and you know that the best PMs keep both in sync.
Why It’s Worth a Conversation
There are plenty of civils firms offering “busy workloads” and “opportunities to progress.”
But few that actually mean it — and even fewer where you can progress without losing your weekends or your sanity.
This is one of them.
Solid foundations. Clear growth. Genuinely decent people.
If you’re ready for a proper move — not a sideways shuffle — this could be it.
