Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Civils & Remediation

Let’s be honest.

Plenty of QS roles promise “career progression”.
Very few actually deliver it.

This one does — because the business behind it understands how good commercial people are made… and actually puts the time in.

This is a Quantity Surveyor / Assistant QS role with a well-established civils and remediation contractor operating across a genuinely varied portfolio of work.

Not just one type of scheme.
Not just one client.
And definitely not one-note experience.

The Work

You’ll be involved in a broad mix of civils and remediation projects — infrastructure, enabling works, brownfield sites, and complex remediation schemes that keep things interesting. Office base is Gloucestershire and you’ll be there one day a week, work from home once or twice per week and onsite in South Wales. (travel will be in your work day and subsistence covered – they’re not expecting you onsite at the crack of dawn)

This is work that makes you think.

You’ll be exposed to:

  • Full commercial lifecycle involvement — from early cost planning through to final account

  • Change management, risk, and value engineering in live environments

  • Problem-solving on technically challenging schemes

  • Projects that don’t all look the same when you turn up on day one

If you’re an Assistant QS, you’ll be supported but not wrapped in cotton wool.
You’ll be trusted with responsibility early — because that’s how people actually learn.

If you’re already a QS, you’ll get the scope to broaden your experience and sharpen your commercial judgement, not just manage packages on autopilot.

Career Progression (Not the Buzzword Kind)

Progression here is very real — and very visible.

The owner is a major figure in the civils and remediation world.
Well-known. Well-connected. And very hands-on.

He’s one of those rare operators who:

  • Knows the technical detail

  • Understands the commercial reality

  • And actively enjoys developing people

You’ll learn directly from someone who’s seen it all — the wins, the mistakes, and the shortcuts that don’t work.

There’s a clear pathway for growth, but it’s flexible rather than formulaic.
People progress because they’re ready — not because a box has been ticked.

Culture & Shared Success

This is a shared-success business.

When the company performs, the team feels it.

That comes through in:

  • A strong, grown-up social side

  • Regular team events

  • And standout days like Henley Regatta and Ascot Races

It’s sociable without being forced.

Professional without being stuffy.

People enjoy working together — which, oddly enough, still matters.

Who This Role Suits

You might be:

  • An Assistant QS looking to accelerate your development

  • A QS wanting more variety and visibility

  • Someone curious about civils and remediation if you haven’t done both already

What matters most is attitude:

  • Commercially minded

  • Willing to learn

  • Comfortable asking questions and taking ownership

Why This One’s Different

Because it’s rare to find:

  • Complex, interesting work

  • A genuinely respected mentor

  • Clear progression

  • And a business that celebrates success together

All in one place.

This is one of those opportunities that quietly builds very strong careers.

So down the line you can be very loud about where you’ve gotten to.

So let’s have a chat it doesn’t matter if you haven’t got an up-to-date CV for now. Everyone who gets in touch will get a response.

Civils Senior Talent and our partner clients are equal opportunity employers.
